We explored all different kinds of weather during the month of January. We checked the weather each morning during circle time and recorded it on our daily calendar. We really enjoyed our sensory story called 'Messy Morgan's Messy Weather'.
We were very brave and ventured out into the snow to see what all the fuss was about. We made some lovely snowflakes for our classroom using lots of glitter and glue. We ended up with glitter on our clothes, on our face and even in our hair, but we didn't mind!
We got very messy while using shaving foam and glue to make some soft fluffy clouds and we sprinkled some rice underneath the clouds to represent the rain. We didn't have to wait very long to see the rain in action!
When it came to making our rainbows, we had lots of hard work to do. First we spread some salt out onto paper and we then used the side of some red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple chalk to rub over the salt. We were so surprised when the salt began to change colour. We had to make sure that we were careful when pouring the salt into the cup as we wanted the colours to be in the correct order.
We were also busy in the kitchen as we made jelly, and not just normal jelly, but rainbow jelly!! We had lots of different flavours including strawberry, orange, lemon, lime, blackberry and raspberry. We enjoyed smelling each different kind of jelly, looking at its colour and feeling its texture. We cut the jelly up into six cubes and counted each cube as we placed it into the jug. Once the jelly was set, we placed a spoonful of each flavour into the cup, and our favourite part was the taste test after our dinner. It's safe to say our rainbow jelly went down a treat!

We decided that we hadn't seen a lot of the sun in recent weeks, so we took matters into our own hands. We painted our sun in the shape of a circle and decorated it using our finger tips. Some of us also rolled yellow crepe paper into small balls and pressed them onto our sun. We used gold glitter to add some sparkle. We sure do love glitter in Special Care Class Five!!
