Our theme this month was food. We had so much fun exploring this topic. We cooked and cleaned in our kitchen and wore our chefs apron and hat during Aistear. We learned all about fruit and vegetables and did printing in art. We read the story of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and loved it. We learned all about what the caterpillar ate and how he turned into a beautiful butterfly. We worked really hard painting and decorating a caterpillar and butterlies for our displaty board. We did lots of matching activities and did a sorting activity too. It was a really fun month.
Junior 1 were very busy in December preparing for our big play on the 11th of December in Drumlin House. They all did so well and we were all very proud of our little angels. We had a lovely walk to the fairy forest which was beautifully decorated for Christmas. The children loved exploring the forest. We had Christmas jumper day on the 21st for Santa's visit. We had lots of fun dancing at the disco too!
November was another very busy month. We were learning all about winter. We learned about dressing in warm clothes for the winter and practiced our dressing skills. We had lots of fun. We really loved playing with our winter sensory bins and we were learning the colour blue.We continued working on number, handwriting and literacy skills also.
Our theme this month was Hallowe'en. The children took part in many exciting activities such as making playdough, dressing up, art activities, sensory play, a visit to the library, singing songs such as 5 little ghosts and 10 little pumpkins and trick or treating around the other classes. It was a really busy month and lots of fun was had!
We were learning "All about Me" in September. We took part in many activities relating to ourselves. We learned songs such as head, shoulders, knees and toes and our busy body song. We did hand and foot prints, made self portraits and used play dough to make our body parts. We played body bingo and learned about our names and also about our families. It was a really fun month in Junior 1.
Our theme for March was On the Farm. We played with our small world farm, fed the animals, drove the tractor and helped the farmer with his daily jobs. We sand about Old Mac Donald and learned the Lamh signs for the farm animals. We hid animals in the sand and enjoyed finding them and hiding them again. We happy with the Happy Architect Farm set. We made some lovely farm animals in art. We also celebrated St. Patrick's day.It's been yet another busy month!
This month our theme was TRANSPORT. We played with different types of transport and played with the garage. We had great fun watching the cars slide down the garage slide. We had fun with the train set and tried hard to slot the tracks together. We went outside and played with a selection of ride-ons and tried to maneuver our way around cones. Our art work included making prints with different types of tyres, decorating hot air balloons and putting little teddies in the baskets, and making prints with transport sponges. Our daily rhyme was about 'bumping up and down' on different types of transport! We also made tracks on playdough, cut out transport shapes using playdough and had our very own car wash!
We have a new addition to Junior 1! We are lucky to have Hiba join us this month. She is busy settling into her new school and we hope she is very happy with us.
Our theme for January was WINTER-TIME. We dressed up in warm winter clothes, we put ice cubes in our water play to feel the very cold water and put arctic animals in it. We made hot chocolate to warm ourselves up. We made ‘snow’ with shaving foam and bicarb of soda. Our daily song was about snowflakes landing on different parts of Olaf’s body. We made snowmen out of clay, penguins with water bottles and cotton wool balls! And that’s just some of our activities in January! It even snowed during the month so we enjoyed going outside, catching snowflakes.
