Our theme this month was Hallowe'en. The children took part in many exciting activities such as making playdough, dressing up, art activities, sensory play, a visit to the library, singing songs such as 5 little ghosts and 10 little pumpkins and trick or treating around the other classes. It was a really busy month and lots of fun was had!
We were learning "All about Me" in September. We took part in many activities relating to ourselves. We learned songs such as head, shoulders, knees and toes and our busy body song. We did hand and foot prints, made self portraits and used play dough to make our body parts. We played body bingo and learned about our names and also about our families. It was a really fun month in Junior 1.
Our theme for March was On the Farm. We played with our small world farm, fed the animals, drove the tractor and helped the farmer with his daily jobs. We sand about Old Mac Donald and learned the Lamh signs for the farm animals. We hid animals in the sand and enjoyed finding them and hiding them again. We happy with the Happy Architect Farm set. We made some lovely farm animals in art. We also celebrated St. Patrick's day. It's been yet another busy month!
This month our theme was TRANSPORT. We played with different types of transport and played with the garage. We had great fun watching the cars slide down the garage slide. We had fun with the train set and tried hard to slot the tracks together. We went outside and played with a selection of ride-ons and tried to maneuver our way around cones. Our art work included making prints with different types of tyres, decorating hot air balloons and putting little teddies in the baskets, and making prints with transport sponges. Our daily rhyme was about 'bumping up and down' on different types of transport! We also made tracks on playdough, cut out transport shapes using playdough and had our very own car wash!
We have a new addition to Junior 1! We are lucky to have Hiba join us this month. She is busy settling into her new school and we hope she is very happy with us.
Our theme for January was WINTER-TIME. We dressed up in warm winter clothes, we put ice cubes in our water play to feel the very cold water and put arctic animals in it. We made hot chocolate to warm ourselves up. We made ‘snow’ with shaving foam and bicarb of soda. Our daily song was about snowflakes landing on different parts of Olaf’s body. We made snowmen out of clay, penguins with water bottles and cotton wool balls! And that’s just some of our activities in January! It even snowed during the month so we enjoyed going outside, catching snowflakes.
This month our topic was the Jungle. We had great fun singing 'We're Walking through the Jungle', using puppets and making the animal sounds. We played with jungle animals in our small world play and tried on jungle animal masks and puppets during role play. In creative play we made snakes with socks, put stripes on zebras , made prints with the animals feet and made a springy snake by cutting a spiral in a paper plate. We really enjoyed our topic on The Jungle.
We had some spooky characters in Junior 1 this month. A skeleton, pirate, two witches and a pumpkin came to visit!
