We have had a busy June. We explored the theme of Summer and all it entailed- including trying out some yummy ice-cream. Our class display won 2nd place during Active Week. Our prize was a pizza party which we all enjoyed very much. As well as that we had Sports day, a fun day and many social outings to finish off our year. Have a fabulous summer from all the staff and children in Junior 4!
Junior 4 have been an active bunch this May. We celebrated Ollie's 8th birthday as a class. Happy birthday Ollie!
We all took part in Active Week which ran from the 14th-18th May. We had a "Fittest Family' obstacle course on Monday. On Tuesday we went for a walk to the Senior school Spinathon. On Wednesday we had a fruit tasting session hosted by Junior 7 and on Friday we had Zumba. We had a visit from soccer player Leanne Kiernan to end Active Week. Sierra was presented with a certificate and prize for best dancing during Zumba! As well as that our class won 2nd prize in 'Best Active Week Display'. Our prize was an ice-cream party which we will have in the coming month!
Among all our Active Week activities we have been busy learning about Transport. As part of our Aistear we sorted vehicles by category and colour. We made aeroplanes using lollipop sticks as part of our junk art. As part of our exploratory play we hid vehicles in pasta and rice and sand and had to excavate them using shovels and diggers. It was so much fun! To end our Transport theme we went for a walk and looked at lots of different vehicles and modes of transport!
During the month of April we learned all about The Farm. For our Aistear we had lots of fun with sensory trays using sand and porridge. We used our PECS images to find the hidden animals. After that we counted how many cows, pigs, sheep etc we all had in our trays. We also had a farm role play station and an art station which we enjoyed making cows and using cow footprints to make prints in paint.
In our classroom we used 'Winnie Wagtail' as our stimulus story and had lots of fun trying on the different animal tails and masks. We finished our month making animal sensory books which all the children loved!
We had a busy March. We celebrated two birthdays, the birthday of Shay and Shane. We enjoyed an Easter egg hunt and an Easter party with the Junior school. We also had lots of fun preparing for St.Patrick's Day. I'm sure you will agree we have been busy bunnies this Easter.
We had lots of fun today at the Cavan Centre in Ballyjamesduff. We visited the fairy garden and the play den. As well as that some of us got to wrestle each other in an inflatable fighting arena!
We had lots of fun learning about Jungle animals and life in the Jungle. Take a look at our wonderful work!
Today we made hot chocolate as part of our Winter themed Science lesson. We experienced materials and how they changed. As a class we began by heating the milk. We poured the heated milk in to a jug. We then added the cocoa powder to our cup and then added the milk and sang as we stirred and mixed them together. We observed how the powder changed to a liquid form with the addition of milk. The first cup of hot chocolate dissolved quickly as we had very hot milk but as it cooled it took longer for the hot chocolate to dissolve. We had lots of fun especially as we got to eat our marshmallows and drink our hot chocolate as we finished!
