Junior 5 have had a very busy few months. We have been taking part in soccer coaching in St. Michael's hall and going to the Library. In school we have been working on the topic of construction for Aistear, having fun in music therapy and ICT. We also had great fun doing our Winter art activities. As part of Science week we really enjoyed doing lots of exciting experiments such as making a 'lava lamp' and a skittles rainbow.
Junior 5 have had a very busy first month back at school. John from Ulster rugby came into school to show us how to play 'Tag Rugby'. We enjoyed learning about our autumn and 'All about me' topics. On Friday 22nd of September we all went to Monaghan County Museum to see demonstrations of Japanese dance, Kaik
We are developing Communications Skills, Social and Life Skills.
We have enjoyed a visit from the Armagh Planetarium as part of our science curriculum.
Aistear language Programme takes place three times a week focusing on creative skills, role play and sand and water play.
In Mathematics we are using Numicon - A multi-sensory Maths programme. Numicon’s visual, auditory and kinaesthetic approach appeals to different learning styles. Pupils learn through both seeing and feeling how Numicon patterns connect with each other. By physically manipulating Numicon to build constructions, make arrangements and patterns and play games using the feely bag, pupils will experience with both their hands and their eyes how numbers fit together.
In Literacy, we are using See and Learn and making great progress.
Junior 5 had an excellent time at Sports Day and everyone tried their best at all the activity stations as you can see. We would like to thank Laura (P.E. teacher) and all the volunteers from Senior 4 and 6 for setting up such an action-packed morning of activities. We had lots of fun! When we returned to school we were presented with our Sports Day certificates. We also got some ice-cream as a well deserved treat for all our hard work :)
In May, Junior 5 have been doing our best to live a healthy lifestyle. It was all kicked off by Active Schools Week, where we took part in lots of fun activities to be more active during the school day. It was continued by the Food Dudes Healthy Eating programme. To keep up our healthy lifestyle, alongside being active, we have been eating a variety of fruits and vegetables to grow up big and strong just like our favourite superheroes!
'The Restaurant' was our Aistear theme for the month of April. The Junior School was transformed into an Italian pizzeria. We made the dough from scratch, decorated the pizza and popped it in the oven. While we waited for the pizza to cook we helped tidy and wash up. Soon it was time to sample what we had made. It was delicious and hot!
