We celebrated Spring and Easter this month. We did some lovely Easter art, a handprint chick and a fluffy bunny aswell as our St.Patricks's Day art. We also practised our cooking skills making yummy rice krispie buns and toast. We had fun finding Easter items in the sand and practising our counting skills aswell.
We are looking forward to our Easter Holidays and all those delicious Easter eggs.
Our theme this month was Transport. We enjoyed investigating the effect of forces on various vehicles. We pushed and pulled different transport on rough and smooth surfaces and up and down slopes. We looked at and sorted old and new vehicles. We went outside to the school gate and did a traffic survey counting the different types of vehicles that passed the school and we had fun predicting what type of vehicle would pass the school next! We learned the Lamh sign for several types of transport. We enjoyed playing with the train set and slotting the tracks together. We read 'The Train Ride' and sequenced the parts of the story. Finally, we completed some lovely art work - printing with vehicle tyres, printing with transport shaped sponges and making hot air balloons.
We made snake socks by stuffing socks with recycled shredded paper and then we added eyes and a tongue.
We enjoyed making our own jungle during small world play, we set up a jungle scene and placed trees, animals, a watering hole and logs in our camouflage tent. We made stripey zebras and animal feet prints. We read our book 'Walking through the Jungle' and had fun making all the animal sounds. We played with the Happy Architect Jungle building set.
October was a busy month in Junior 6. We did some spooky art including black cats, orange pumpkins and shaving foam ghosts. We went outside to find animal habitats and found spiders in webs, a bird in a nest, woodlice under rocks, worms in the soil and ants under rotten wood. We carved out a pumpkin and dressed up for Trick or Treating and our Halloween Party. We enjoyed making Witch's Stew in the Witch's kitchen and practiced our counting skills by finding scary objects in the sand and counting how many we could find. We read Room on the Broom and dressed up as the witch in the story.
We have 8 students in Junior 6 this year. Six students are familiar faces while two are new to our school. We are delighted to have them with us.
We've had a busy few weeks getting to know each other. This month our theme was 'ME'! We made our family tree, looked at our unique finger prints and looked at the size of our foot prints. We talked about our birthdays and decorated a cake and placed the correct amount of candles on each. We had great fun making our family members with play dough. We played with Mr Potato Heads and copied pictures of already made up Potato heads. We played with dolls houses, family member dolls and furniture. We enjoyed placing the correct furniture in the rooms. We used sponges to print body shapes. We enjoyed singing our daily song about putting musical shakers on different parts of our body.
We're looking forward to a busy and successful year in Junior 6.
