Turning of the sod.
On Friday the 18th October An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar visited the school accompanied by Heather Humphries, Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation and Mairead McGuiness, Vice President of the European Parliment to "turn the sod" on our new bulding.
He was given the traditional Holy Family School welcome by the staff and pupils with songs, a poem and a number of presentations.
The pupils greeted him with the "Hello" song. This was followed by the Senior pupils who sang "You've got a friend in me". AS number of senior pupils recited a poem written especially to mark the occasion telling the history of the school from its beginnings in Carrickmacross to its present site and the hopes we have for the future in our new building.
Nojus Zumaras presented Leo with a personalised sports jersey with the school logo on it.
Reece O Reilly had a hamper full of goodies from O Leary's shop for him and Fionn Smith from the Junior classes gave Leo a framed piece of Carrickmacross Lace to recognise our link wiht the town. The pupils then had a few questions for Leo about his taste in music, whether he was going to do the Dublin City Marathon or not, his favourite football team and his previous trips to Cavan.
Before heading out to turn the sod the pupils sang the "Community song" which was enthusiastically signed by Matthew Dolan.
