Chinese New Year
In January, Senior 7 learnt all about Chinese New Year. We learnt that this year, 2017, is the year of the rooster. We used the internet to research all about China and how they celebrate the New Year. We found out that red is a lucky colour in China and children get red envelopes with money in them from their grandparents for good luck. People decorate their homes with paper lanterns and lights. They also have a large parade with lots of floats and dragons. In Art, we made our own Chinese New Year dragons. Some of us also made paper lanterns.
Our trip to Carrickmacross
50 years ago, the Holy family School started in Carrickmacross. Senior 5 and senior 7 went to Carrickmacross and met with Dr. Rory O'Hanlon. we had prepared lots of questions to ask him about how the school began and we learnt lots of interesting facts.
  • When the school started, there were only 17 pupils and 1 teacher.
  • One lady was employed to cook a hot meal for the students every day. Everyone else involved were volunteers.
  • The pupils went to school on Saturday.
We had a lovely day and enjoyed our lunch in The Fiddler's Elbow.
Gymnastics
Senior 5 and Senior 7 have been working very hard with Laura in PE. we have been learning all different gymnastic moves. We worked in groups to put these moves together and make up a routine. We performed our routines for Senior 1, 2 and 3.
