Hooray for Halloween!

October was yet another busy month. We attended a porridge morning held by Senior 6 in aid of Mary's Meals. They raised a fantastic €105! Well done Senior 6!
Our theme for the month was Halloween. We began the month investigating Halloween and the history of it. We looked at ways in which Halloween differs today compared to Halloween in the past. We uncovered that apple bobbing is an old tradition but it differs slightly nowadays. In the past when you bobbed for an apple and caught one you had to marry the person who had carved their initials in to the apple. Nowadays we do it for fun!
We also went shopping and bought our own pumpkins as part of our Literacy and Science lessons. We then had to cut into our pumpkin and investigate what was inside. We looked at the seeds and pulp and talked a little about how pumpkins grow. We also designed a pumpkin on paper and put our carving skills to the test. I'm sure you'll agree our pumpkins look super scary! Hooray for Halloween!

We had a wonderful September exploring the theme of Autumn and all that goes along with it. We enjoyed a nature trail to Erica's Fairy Forest and collected lots of autumn items. We sorted and categorised them. We then stored them on our nature table to explore further during SESE. I'm sure you'll agree we have been busy bees! Here's to a fun-filled October!!

We had a very busy month in April. We had active week where we took part in many activities such as spinning on the street, tug o' war, archery and yoga. Senior 3 won the overall competition for the most active class, so we were all delighted. This month we also started the 'Food Dudes' to promote healthy eating within our school. We tried lots of new fruits and veg and really enjoyed tasting new foods. Also as an extra treat this month Micheal Lawson (the winner of the Voice of Ireland) came in for a visit and sang for us all.

Senior 3 had a lot going on in March. They were learning about giving directions and following maps. This included an Easter egg hunt around Cootehill following a list of directions and using our maps of Cootehill. As part of our 1916 Easter Rising celeb
