October was yet another busy month. We attended a porridge morning held by Senior 6 in aid of Mary's Meals. They raised a fantastic €105! Well done Senior 6!
Our theme for the month was Halloween. We began the month investigating Halloween and the history of it. We looked at ways in which Halloween differs today compared to Halloween in the past. We uncovered that apple bobbing is an old tradition but it differs slightly nowadays. In the past when you bobbed for an apple and caught one you had to marry the person who had carved their initials in to the apple. Nowadays we do it for fun!
We also went shopping and bought our own pumpkins as part of our Literacy and Science lessons. We then had to cut into our pumpkin and investigate what was inside. We looked at the seeds and pulp and talked a little about how pumpkins grow. We also designed a pumpkin on paper and put our carving skills to the test. I'm sure you'll agree our pumpkins look super scary! Hooray for Halloween!
